Bringing Misfits Together.
Bringing Misfits together to conserve and protect the world around us.

We dream of a world where wildlife can thrive alongside our ever-developing communities. We want people to appreciate and return to nature, to explore, protect and admire it, safely and with appreciation. We all can make a difference, together!

With the help of local Scout groups and schools, we are working to provide additional habitats and safe havens for wildlife that has been displaced by deforestation and the rapid community growth.

We rescue and rehome small animals and Misfits.

Community involvement is so important to our mission. We want to teach future generations, to respect and protect the world around us and understand the important role every single creature plays. We are all connected and rely on the survival of each other to thrive.
Mabel was the catalyst that started it all!
in 2025, I received a call that a member of the public had found a piglet wandering the streets. However, despite their best efforts they could not locate her owner and they needed help. Still to this day I will never understand what prompted me to say it, but without hesitation I said, “Bring it here, I’ll figure it out!”.
All of a sudden, I had a very stressed and unhappy piglet, the size of a large cocker spaniel on my property. I had never owned or cared for pig before but to my surprise, the community quickly came together to help provide her with a shelter and food, within a few hours. She was safe until I figured out what to do with her. I made calls, researched and tried to find somewhere for her to go, to no avail. Within 12 hours, the little-ish piglet had warmed up to me and I knew that she was going to be staying here, at least for a while.
A few days passed by and I realized that she needed a name. So many names were thrown out to the wind, “Bacon”, “Penelope”, “Peppa” and “Charlotte” being just a few examples. All of a sudden, I shouted “Mabel!” and everyone shouted back “Yes!” in unison! So there you have it- “Mabel” was her new name!
Now, at the time I had already been toying with the idea of starting a non-profit to help rescue animals and wildlife and so I said, “Maybe I’ll call the non-profit Mabel’s Misfits!” It just had a ring to it! However, what I did not know at the time, is that the name would really embody everything I wanted my organization to be about, in just two words.
The name “Mabel” has Latin origins, derived from the word “amabilis” which means “lovable”. So, Mabel’s Misfits literally translates to “Lovable Misfits”. Having felt like a “misfit” most of my life, this really resonated with me. All of a sudden, I realized something. We are all Misfits, no matter, what or who we are, no matter whether we are human or animal, bird or insect. Regardless of our ability, age, gender, species, race or religion. We are all misfits, connected to each other, in one way or another, unaware that we are reliant on each other and the world around us to thrive.
Mabel’s Misfits is here to bring people together under a common cause. To protect and help any misfits thrive and flourish, to care for the wildlife and animals around us. Teach empathy and appreciation towards nature and those around us. To encourage wildlife conservation and habitat restoration within our local community and beyond. Whether it’s by simply placing a bird feeder on an apartment balcony or taking part in a creek cleanup, we can all play our part and hopefully make some friends along the way! Mabel’s Misfits is here, not only for our struggling wildlife and rescue animals, to make sure they are around for future generations but also for those struggling to feel like they fit in. You fit right in with us because we are all Misfits and we are lovable.
